  Installation Information
For Transformer Manufacturers
The IFD is installed in a transformer in the air space above the oil, using a 1.34in (3.4 cm) embossed hole with an indent, in the tank wall. Specific hole locations will depend upon individual transformer designs and sizes.

Variations may exist in the procedures used by different manufacturers to pressurize, vacuum and oil fill transformers. IFD Corporation can provide assistance and necessary tool designs to simplify these operations. Please Contact Us for assistance.

For Refurbishing or Retrofitting
The IFD can be easily refurbished or retrofitted.

Because variations may exist in the procedures used to refurbish transformers, IFD Corporation can provide assistance and necessary tool designs to simplify these operations. Please Contact Us for assistance.

For Shipping
The IFD is secured for safe transport by a shipping lock.

For Pole Mounting
The only difference when installing an IFD equipped transformer from one not IFD equipped, is that after hanging the transformer and making all necessary connections the orange shipping lock must be removed. Failure to remove this lock will prevent the IFD from activating during a fault.

Line crews will need to know that a transformer should not be re-energized if the IFD has been activated. For added safety, the IFD cannot be reset after activation. (See also In Service Inspections)

For Training
To familiarize utility operating and engineering personnel on how the IFD operates and the correct line crew procedures after its operation, a short training video is available from IFD Corporation. This video makes a valuable contribution to Line Safety Meetings. Please Contact Us to order and answer any other questions you may have. Training procedures for linecrews need to be modified when the IFD is specified.
